Anxiety Treatment
Are you feeling anxious and having difficulty relaxing? Is your mind racing? Are the same thoughts constantly replaying in your mind? Maybe you feel like you can’t “turn it off”. Are you exhausted and unable to concentrate? Do you find yourself avoiding social gatherings or outings? Anxiety can look and feel different depending on the person. The level of anxiety can also change with the seasons/stages of our life. It can range from very mild symptoms such as overthinking an upcoming event, to more severe symptoms like feeling as though you are dying. It can be difficult to determine what is normal every day worry versus worry that is interfering with everyday life.
Common anxiety signs and symptoms:
- Feeling nervous, restless, or tense
- Having a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom
- Having an increased heart rate
- Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation)
- Sweating
- Trembling
- Feeling weak or tired
- Trouble concentrating or thinking about anything other than the present worry
- Having trouble sleeping
- Experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) problems
- Having difficulty controlling worry
- Having the urge to avoid things that trigger anxiety
When is it time to see a therapist:
- You are worrying so much that it is interfering with everyday life (relationships, job, school, hygiene).
- You begin to feel like you cannot control the anxiety/fear/worry.
- You begin to use alcohol, drugs, food, etc. to cope.
- You begin to have thoughts of wanting to harm yourself or others.
Imagine a life where you could:
- Stop being consumed with anxious thoughts all the time.
- Slowly begin to face your anxiety-producing triggers head on
- Have less frequent panic attacks
- Sleep better and more soundly
- Relax at the end of the day without feeling tense
- Finally be free from the anxious thoughts that prevent you from living the life of your dreams.
