Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
It takes a great deal of courage to reach out for counseling support, and many people have questions about what to expect. Find answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) here.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I am in network with Cigna and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. If you are not in network with these insurance companies, I also accept private pay/out of network at a rate of $165 per session. Detailed receipts can be provided to you at the end of every month for your own submission to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company directly for any Out of Network and/or reimbursement related information.
Why should I consider therapy?
I have always had the belief that everyone can benefit from therapy. There is a misconception that therapy is only beneficial when you are going through something tragic, traumatic, or when you have reached your breaking point. I believe quite the opposite. I believe in entering the therapeutic relationship before you hit your breaking point and being able to learn the skills to better cope with life’s stressors. It provides a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share and process life’s stressors. I believe that at times therapy can serve as a mirror into your own life which can increase your awareness into things that you may not have noticed or recognized before.
What to expect in therapy?
During our first session I will review any questions that you may have, review some basic housekeeping items, and conduct an assessment. This will include reviewing personal history, presenting challenges, and the nature of goals that you want to work on. I will then tailor my clinical skills to meet you where you are. My style is non-judgmental, empathetic, and compassionate. After the initial session, therapy will not look the same for everyone as we all are coming into therapy for different reasons. In general, you can expect to discuss recent events, triggers, highs, and lows from the previous week/weeks. You may share about personal history that is relevant to what is currently going on in your life and report any progress since the previous therapy session.
How long will I be in therapy for?
Depending on your specific goals, therapy can be short-term to address a specific issue or long-term to address more consistent patterns/challenges. We will work together to make sure the length of treatment suits your needs. However, it is most common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist on a weekly basis.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
You might already be planning to share personal information about a family member or friend and you don’t want them finding out what you said. Rest assured all information you share remains confidential unless you make a statement about wanting to hurt yourself or someone else. I believe privacy is one of the most crucial aspects of therapy and I want you to be able to express yourself freely without fearing that what you share will be leaked. If you have any other questions about this topic, do not hesitate to reach out.
How do I know if my therapist is the right one for me?
I encourage you to read through this website to see if you think we would be a good fit and that I would be able to help you. I am also happy to provide you with a quick and free phone consultation so that you can ask me any questions or concerns to ease your mind. At that time you can also share what is going on and why you are seeking therapy. Together we can decide if we should move forward. I believe once you engage in your first session or two, you will have a better idea if we are a good fit. My approach may not work for everyone, but what is most important is that it works for you.
Why online therapy?
It takes away all the barriers that sometimes cause us to not follow through with our therapy sessions. Too busy? Got stuck at work and can’t make it to your appointment on time due to traffic? Can’t find a babysitter? The weather is bad? Not feeling well? Online therapy eliminates all of these roadblocks to ensure that it fits into your schedule. Online therapy also allows you to be as comfortable as possible during your therapy session, both physically and mentally. Grab your comfiest PJs, a hot cup of coffee, and enjoy your session from the comfort of your own home.
